Welcome to Life in Motion Chiropractic! We understand that visiting a chiropractor for the first time can raise many questions. To help you feel comfortable and informed, we’ve compiled a list of frequently asked questions.
1. What is chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care focuses on diagnosing and treating neuromuscular disorders of the spine and body. The goal is to reduce pain and improve functionality by restoring proper movement to the body’s musculoskeletal structure. We achieve this through manual adjustments, exercises, and other therapies that work on the body’s tissue.
2. Is chiropractic treatment safe?
Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest nondrug, noninvasive forms of health care available for treating neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is free of potential adverse effects. However, the risks associated with chiropractic are minimal and may include things like soreness. If you feel sore, drinking water and icing after the first treatment can often mitigate these.
3. What should I expect during my first visit?
When you visit, you’ll be greeted by our friendly staff and asked to complete some brief paperwork to give us general information about yourself, your condition, and your goals with care. This can be conveniently completed at home through our online forms. You’ll consult the doctor to discuss your health-related problems and concerns. The doctor will then perform a thorough examination, which may include specialized tests to determine the affected areas and the underlying cause of your pain. Digital X-rays may be taken to help you develop the most effective treatment plan for you if necessary. After the doctor understands your condition, he’ll often perform the first treatment to find you relief.
4. Will I receive treatment during my first visit?
Depending on your specific condition and the doctor’s assessment, you may receive your first treatment during this visit. This could include chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue work, or other appropriate therapies. Before leaving, you’ll also receive instructions on certain activities or procedures at home, such as applying ice or heat, avoiding certain activities or positions, and performing home exercises or stretches.
5. How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on your specific condition and individual needs. Just like how a single healthy meal or gym session doesn’t create lasting changes in the body, it will often take a series of visits to make changes in the body and find long-lasting relief. After your initial evaluation, the doctor will discuss a tailored plan with you, including the expected number of visits, home exercises, goals we’ll work towards, and the anticipated duration of care. Care often consists of a series of visits, followed by a re-examination to ensure that we have an objective improvement in your condition and are meeting your recovery goals.
6. Do you accept insurance?
